Dermal fillers can adjust and change many aspects of the face, giving it more defined contours, symmetry, and restoring fullness and volume. As we age, the facial muscles that work on keep our face youthful begin to falter, causing crow’s feet and deep wrinkles to show on the surface. As a cost-effective method for facial rejuvenation, Dr. Brian Pinsky can provide dermal fillers to fill out wrinkles and smooth the skin for a vibrant appearance.

What Are The Ingredients In Dermal Fillers?

When a person ages, the subcutaneous fat that provides volume to our faces naturally begins to subside, causing the facial muscles to appear closer to the face. The skin along the face’s surface also begins to stretch, creating wrinkles and the signs of aging more apparent. Dermal fillers are injectable, gel-like solutions made to fill out and contour the face. Dermal fillers contain an array of natural acids and biocompatible substances that enhance the skin’s appearance. These fillers do more than removing wrinkles; they can smooth out creases in chins, enhance the cheek temples, restore volume in the nose and mouth, and diminish aging signs. Dermal fillers that are FDA approved are often made with these ingredients and use these methods:

Hyaluronic Acid

As a naturally occurring substance in the skin, this acid forms the eyes and skin’s connective tissues and helps retain the body’s moisture. Hyaluronic acid fillers are often mixed with lidocaine to reduce any discomfort but help keep the skin hydrated and plump.

Calcium Hydroxylapatite

Also known as CaHA, it is a naturally occurring substance found in our bones. The calcium particles in dermal fillers can create natural collagen production and are often used for deeper wrinkles and lines.

Polymethylmethacrylate

Polymethylmethacrylate, also known as PMMA or acrylic, is a synthetic, biocompatible substance that has been used in the construction of bone cement, denture bases, and lenses in microsensors. This material has longer support in the skin and helps produce collagen to maintain firmness and smoothness.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid

Poly-L-lactic Acid has been used for medical sutures and stitches and is classified as a collagen stimulator that’s biocompatible and biodegradable. It’s used for treating deeper facial wrinkles and helps rebuild the skin’s natural collagen production.

Autologous Fat Injections

Fat injections harvest fat from other parts of the body using liposuction and then inject these purified fat particles into the face such as the cheeks, lower eyelids, and temples.

Procedure Guide For Facial Injectables

Among the many listed facial fillers, Dr. Pinsky will first need to discuss options with you during your first consultation to determine which areas need to be treated, how they will be treated, and how these treatments will align with your goals. The overall procedure will last between 15 minutes and an hour, depending on the type of facial injection needed. For preparation, you will need to discuss your medical history, including any allergies, neurological conditions, and medications that could affect your results.

Before treatment, the different parts of your face will be evaluated, and strategic points on your face will be marked for the appropriate injection sites. Photographs will also be taken for reference. Next, the injection sites will be disinfected using an antibacterial agent and a local anesthetic ointment to prepare the injection sites. Dr. Pinsky will then inject the filler into the injection sites, with a few minutes per site. The areas will also be massaged and evaluated during the procedure, and additional filler will be added as needed. Once completed, Dr. Pinsky will clean off the marks and will offer ice packs if needed.
