Body Contouring

on Long Island

You did the hard part. You lost the weight, you had the babies, you put in the years at the gym — and the scale finally says what you wanted it to say. But the mirror still doesn’t. Loose skin around the middle, an “apron” that folds over your waistband, arms that stay soft no matter how many push-ups you do. That’s where body contouring comes in, and it’s one of the procedures Dr. Brian Pinsky performs most often.

What Is Body Contouring?

Body contouring isn’t one operation. It’s a group of procedures that reshape your body by removing extra skin, taking out stubborn pockets of fat, and tightening what’s left so everything sits where it should.

Here’s the part most people don’t hear until they’re sitting in a consultation: skin is a bit like a rubber band. Stretch it far enough, for long enough, and it stops snapping back. Pregnancy does that. So does significant weight gain followed by weight loss. So does simply getting older, as your skin naturally loses its stretch. Once that elasticity is gone, no amount of dieting or exercise will tighten it — the fat underneath can shrink, but the skin covering it stays. Surgery is the only way to remove it.

That’s the honest dividing line to keep in mind. Diet and exercise change your weight. Body contouring changes your shape.

Most people who come to Dr. Pinsky for contouring fall into one of a few groups:

  • They’ve had major weight loss, either on their own or after bariatric surgery, and are left with loose, hanging skin
  • They’ve had one or more pregnancies and their abdomen never went back to normal
  • They’re at a healthy, stable weight but have specific areas — flanks, thighs, upper arms, under the chin — that won’t budge
  • Loose skin is causing physical problems, like rashes, chafing, or trouble finding clothes that fit

Body Contouring Procedures Dr. Pinsky Offers

Because “body contouring” covers so much ground, your plan gets built around the areas that actually bother you. These are the procedures Dr. Pinsky most often combines or recommends:

  • Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) — Removes loose skin and fat from the stomach and tightens the abdominal muscles underneath. This is the go-to for the post-pregnancy or post-weight-loss midsection.
  • Liposuction — Removes fat from targeted areas to smooth out your outline. Great for reshaping, not a weight loss tool.
  • Arm Lift (Brachioplasty) — Tightens the loose skin on the underside of the upper arms.
  • Thigh Lift — Removes sagging skin from the inner or outer thighs.
  • Lower Body Lift — Addresses the stomach, hips, outer thighs, and buttocks together in one procedure. Often the right choice after very large weight loss.
  • Buttock Lift — Lifts and reshapes the buttocks when skin has lost its support.
  • Breast Lift, Breast Reduction, or Breast Augmentation — Weight loss and breastfeeding change the breasts too, and they’re often part of a full contouring plan.
  • Mommy Makeover — A combination approach for changes after pregnancy, usually pairing abdominal work with breast surgery.

If your main concern is loose skin left behind after major weight loss, Dr. Pinsky’s post-weight-loss body contouring page goes deeper on that specific situation, and he’s also written about plastic surgery after weight loss in more detail.

Am I A Good Candidate For Body Contouring?

You’re likely a good candidate if:

  • Your weight has been stable. This is the big one. Dr. Pinsky will usually want your weight to hold steady for several months before operating. Losing more weight afterward can create new sagging; gaining it back can stretch things out again and affect your scars.
  • You don’t smoke. Smoking interferes with healing and raises your risk of complications. If you smoke, you’ll need to quit well before surgery.
  • You’re in reasonably good general health. Any ongoing medical conditions need to be well managed.
  • Your expectations are realistic. Contouring produces real, visible change — it does not produce a different body. Every one of these procedures leaves scars, and Dr. Pinsky places them where clothing and swimwear hide them as much as possible. He’ll show you exactly where they’ll fall before you decide anything.

The clearest way to know is a conversation. At your consultation, Dr. Pinsky examines the areas you’re concerned about, listens to what’s actually bothering you, and tells you honestly what surgery can and can’t fix. If he doesn’t think a procedure will get you what you want, he’ll say so.

What To Expect From The Procedure

Every plan is different, but most body contouring surgeries follow a similar path:

  1. You’ll have a full medical evaluation and lab work ahead of time so Dr. Pinsky knows you’re cleared for surgery.
  2. If you’re treating several areas, he may split the work into more than one surgery. Doing too much at once increases risk, and staging it often gives better results.
  3. On the day of surgery you’ll be under general anesthesia, so you’ll be asleep and won’t feel anything.
  4. Dr. Pinsky makes the incisions along the lines you reviewed together, removes the excess skin and fat, and reshapes the tissue underneath.
  5. The incisions are closed in layers. You’ll usually wake up with dressings, a compression garment, and one or more small drains to keep fluid from collecting under the skin.

Recovery And Risks

Expect to take it easy for a while. Soreness, swelling, bruising, and some numbness around the incisions are all normal in the first few weeks, and Dr. Pinsky will prescribe medication to keep you comfortable. You’ll wear a compression garment as directed, avoid lifting and strenuous activity for several weeks, and come in for follow-up visits so he can check your healing and remove any drains and sutures.

One thing that surprises people: you’ll see a difference right away, but the final result takes time. Swelling comes down gradually and scars keep fading and flattening for a year or more. Patience is genuinely part of the process.

Like any surgery, body contouring carries risks — bleeding, infection, fluid collection, poor healing, changes in sensation, and scarring among them. Dr. Pinsky will walk through the risks that apply to your specific procedure during your consultation, in plain language, before you commit to anything. Ask him every question you have. That’s what the appointment is for.

And once you’ve had surgery, keeping your result comes down to you: a stable weight, regular activity, and a reasonable diet.

Why Choose Dr. Brian Pinsky For Your Body Contouring

Body contouring is as much about judgment as it is about technique. Deciding where an incision goes, how much skin to remove, how to keep both sides even, and how to make the final shape look natural rather than obviously operated on — that comes from experience.

Dr. Pinsky is a board-certified plastic surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons who has spent his career refining exactly this kind of work. He’s also honest to a fault about what surgery can do, which is usually what patients say they appreciated most. You can read what his patients have to say on his testimonials page, or see his work for yourself in the before and after gallery, including tummy tuck, liposuction, and arm lift results from real patients.

He also understands that this decision leaves people feeling exposed. Talking about your stomach or your arms with a stranger isn’t easy. His offices are set up to be private, unhurried, and free of pressure — you’ll never be pushed toward a procedure you’re not sure about.

If part of your concern is functional rather than cosmetic, mention it. It’s worth reviewing the plans his practice accepts and asking during your visit.
